## Description

Commissioned in 1941 and paved to 1,500 metres three decades later, Caxias do Sul's Hugo Cantergiani Airport (CXJ) grew alongside one of Brazil's densest industrial belts. The Serra Gaúcha around it builds metal goods, machinery and auto components, and bottles much of the country's fine wine. Azul, GOL and LATAM fly scheduled services here, and the municipally run field handles regular cargo aviation as well as passenger and air-ambulance work. Time-critical parts move well as belly freight, while heavy and intercontinental shipments are funnelled through Porto Alegre (POA), about 130 km south on the BR-116. That split — fast parts by air here, volume cargo via the state capital — is the practical rule for shippers in the region.
