## Description

Often written off as a pure passenger field, Hubli Airport (IATA: HBX, ICAO: VOHB) handled 224.7 tonnes of air cargo alongside 376,286 passengers in the April 2025 to March 2026 financial year. Operated by the Airports Authority of India for the twin city of Hubballi-Dharwad, it is served by IndiGo and Star Air to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and further domestic points, and ranked third in Karnataka with 358,835 passengers in FY2023-24. Cargo has been processed through the passenger terminal building since 14 March 2021; a dedicated air cargo terminal stands complete and awaits final security clearance before commissioning. No freighters call here, so everything moves as belly load on domestic narrowbodies, which limits consignment size, temperature-controlled options and dangerous goods acceptance. North Karnataka's textile, machinery and agro-processing exporters therefore still route international shipments through the cargo complex at Bengaluru (BLR), some 400 road kilometres away, or via the Goa airports (GOX, GOI) towards the west coast. A larger passenger terminal is under construction next to the existing building to absorb demand that grew 8.6 per cent year on year.
