## Description

Civil aviation arrived in Hualien long before the highways did: on Taiwan's rugged east coast, the airport (IATA: HUN) was for decades the fastest link to Taipei, and it still shares its runways with a major air force wing. Today the joint-use field handles domestic flights and occasional international charters. There is no cargo terminal on site – the region's heavyweight exports, above all marble, gravel and cement products, leave by rail and through the local seaport. Time-critical air freight is trucked or railed to Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). For forwarders, HUN therefore functions as a delivery point for Hualien County and the Taroko area rather than as a cargo airport.
