## Description

In August 1945 the terms of Japan's surrender in China were negotiated at Zhijiang, an airfield that had served the Flying Tigers; the site is now Huaihua Zhijiang Airport (IATA HJJ, ICAO ZGCJ) in western Hunan. Its 2025 figures place it firmly among passenger-only regional fields: about 417,000 passengers and 10,500 aircraft movements against just 17.8 tonnes of cargo. The joint civil-military 4C airport lies roughly 31 km from Huaihua city centre, with a concrete runway of 2,600 by 45 metres, an apron of more than 10,000 square metres and handling for aircraft up to the A320 and Boeing 737 family. A new terminal opened in 2023 is sized for one million passengers a year and 526 in the peak hour, but includes no cargo terminal or freighter handling — freight travels as belly cargo on domestic services to Beijing, Kunming and other cities. Air freight for western Hunan is consolidated at Changsha Huanghua (CSX), the provincial cargo gateway. Rail is the region's real freight asset: Huaihua's international land port dispatches container trains towards ASEAN over the China–Laos railway.
