## Description

Copper built the Keweenaw Peninsula in the nineteenth century; today Michigan Technological University and winter tourism carry it, and Houghton County Memorial Airport (IATA CMX, ICAO KCMX) in Hancock is the peninsula's only scheduled air link. Michigan's northernmost airport handles roughly 50,000 to 55,000 passengers a year on two daily SkyWest flights operated for United to Chicago O'Hare (ORD), supported under the federal Essential Air Service programme, and serves Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon counties.
