## Description

More than 80 percent of Algeria's air cargo passes through Houari Boumediene Airport, making it the country's primary freight gateway. Located about 17 km southeast of Algiers, the airport links the Algerian market to trade routes across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Air Algérie Cargo runs its main base here, operating a dedicated Boeing 737-800F freighter alongside bellyhold capacity, and carries perishables, electronics and industrial goods. Ground handling and cargo warehousing are provided by Swissport, which operates a modern freight facility on site. The airport is also among North Africa's busiest for passenger traffic. By road it connects to Algiers and the national motorway network, while the nearby Port of Algiers enables combined air-sea forwarding. Customs clearance and bonded storage follow the rules of the Algerian Customs Authority (Douanes Algériennes). A notable feature is Algeria's reliance on its own national cargo carrier, giving the country a largely self-sufficient air-freight chain.
