## Description

Home base of Antonov Airlines and the world's principal hub for outsize air cargo until February 2022, Hostomel (Antonov Airport, ICAO: UKKM; no IATA code) is best known as the field where the unique Antonov An-225 "Mriya" was destroyed during the opening battle of the war. North-west of Kyiv, the airport has handled no commercial freight since: Ukrainian airspace remains closed to civil aviation. Reconstruction and a possible An-225 rebuild are under discussion (estimated at over USD 500 million), but no test flight had taken place by the end of 2025. While the war continues, Ukraine-bound air freight routes through neighbouring countries — chiefly Polish airports such as Rzeszów-Jasionka (RZE) and Warsaw (WAW) — with onward trucking. For forwarders, Hostomel is currently not an available cargo gateway.
