## Description

Fresh Atlantic hake, table grapes from the Orange River and securely sealed diamonds account for much of the air freight that leaves Windhoek through Hosea Kutako International Airport, Namibia's principal aviation gateway some 40 kilometres east of the capital. The airport concentrates almost all of the country's scheduled traffic, linking Namibia to the world via Johannesburg, Addis Ababa and Doha. Passenger demand is driven by southern African connections and seasonal tourism. Cargo volumes remain modest but high in value and move mainly as belly freight and through Ethiopian Airlines Cargo to Europe and Asia; UPS has served Namibia since 2019. Ground handling has been provided since 2023 by Paragon Aviation Services, a joint venture between the Namibia Airports Company and Ethiopian Airlines, while customs clearance runs through the Namibia Revenue Agency within the SACU and SADC frameworks. For heavy or bulky consignments the deep-water Port of Walvis Bay, about 360 kilometres west and reached via the B6 trunk road and the TransNamib railway, serves as the complementary sea route. A defining challenge is hot-and-high operation at roughly 1,700 metres elevation, which lengthens take-off rolls and trims payloads on warm days.
