## Description

Honghe Mengzi Airport is a dual-use military and civil project under construction on the site of Mengzi Air Base in Yunnan, designed to handle A320/B737-class aircraft. Approved in 2012 after years of negotiation between civil authorities and the military, construction began in November 2020; until the civil terminal opens there are no scheduled passenger or cargo services. Honghe prefecture borders Vietnam, and its trade moves through the Hekou land crossing and the Kunming–Hekou railway. Air freight for the area is handled at Kunming Changshui (KMG), about three hours away by road.
