## Description

Runway 07/25 stretches roughly 2,287 metres of bitumen — the fourth-longest in Sri Lanka — and comfortably takes narrow-body jets such as the A320, 737 and 757. Despite that capacity, the field around 12 km north of Polonnaruwa sees little scheduled traffic: weak road links have pushed most services back to Bandaranaike International (CMB) near Colombo. Hingurakgoda remains primarily a Sri Lanka Air Force base, reopened to domestic flights in 2012 with a new terminal. It handles no commercial air cargo, so forwarders move freight for the north-central region through CMB's cargo terminal. The nearby Minneriya National Park, famous for its elephant gatherings, draws more arrivals than any freight schedule.
