## Description

Set on Wallis Island in the South Pacific, some 5.6 km northwest of the capital Mata-Utu, Hihifo is the only international airport of the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. Scheduled service is essentially a single-airline affair: Aircalin links the island to Nouméa-La Tontouta in New Caledonia roughly twice a week with Airbus A320s. The airport has no dedicated freight terminal, so air cargo is limited to belly loads on those passenger flights, with genuine freight consolidated via Nouméa and onward to Australia, New Zealand or France. Bulk and oversized goods reach the island by sea through the port of Mata-Utu rather than by air. Customs and border control fall under French authority, though the territory sits outside the EU customs union.
