## Description

Heze Mudan Airport (HZA/ZSHZ) handled more than 1,300 tonnes of cargo and mail in 2025, up from roughly 737 tonnes a year earlier, against an operator target of 6,500 tonnes a year by 2030. Opened in 2021 in Dingtao District and named after the peony (mudan) for which Heze is China's main growing area, the airport runs a compact cargo terminal of about 1,200 square metres. All of that volume moves as belly cargo on domestic services, among them Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Dalian and Harbin; there is no dedicated freighter operation. Passenger traffic reached some 951,000 travellers in 2024, and during the 2025 summer season cargo grew by around 112 per cent year on year to 321 tonnes. For larger consignments out of southwestern Shandong, Zhengzhou Xinzheng (CGO) about two hours west by expressway remains the first choice, with Xuzhou (XUZ) and Jinan Yaoqiang (TNA) as regional alternates. Multimodally the container ports of Rizhao and Qingdao are both within a day's trucking, which is often cheaper than air for the region's heavier industrial output. Typical air consignments are cut flowers, e-commerce parcels and small manufactured components.
