Close to the Iranian and Turkmen frontiers, Herat's Khwaja Abdullah Ansari International Airport (IATA: HEA, ICAO: OAHR) anchors air logistics in western Afghanistan without operating a dedicated cargo terminal. Since the Taliban takeover in August 2021 traffic has run on a reduced, largely domestic pattern: Kam Air and Ariana Afghan Airlines serve Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, with Ariana adding seasonal Jeddah flights.
