## Description

Despite its name, Henderson Field (IATA: MDY, ICAO: PMDY) on Midway Atoll is not a cargo hub but an emergency diversion field in the remote North Pacific. Owned since 2004 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and sitting within a national wildlife refuge, it has no control tower and serves mainly as an ETOPS diversion and emergency alternate for transpacific flights. There is no scheduled passenger or cargo service, and from November to June movements are restricted to night-time because of nesting albatross. For air freight, Honolulu (IATA: HNL), roughly 1,800 km to the southeast, is the nearest genuine cargo airport.
