## Description

Opened in 2015 and inaugurated the following year, Hawassa International Airport (AWA) was built to serve the fast-growing Hawassa Industrial Park, a flagship textile and apparel export zone. Today Ethiopian Airlines flies it on the short domestic hop to Addis Ababa, and passenger traffic dominates. Dedicated air cargo remains minimal: the industrial park's exports move by road to the Modjo dry port and onward to the seaport of Djibouti, while time-critical airfreight is consolidated through Addis Ababa Bole (ADD).
