## Description

Serving the rubber- and seafood-rich provinces of Thailand's deep south, Hat Yai International (HDY) is the region's principal air gateway and ranks among the country's five busiest airports. It is operated around the clock by the state company Airports of Thailand (AOT) and sits in Khlong Hoi Khong district, Songkhla province. Annual air cargo is estimated at roughly 3,000 to 12,000 tonnes depending on the source, moving mainly as belly capacity beneath passenger jets of Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air and Thai Vietjet, plus international services toward Malaysia and Singapore. Natural rubber (latex) and frozen seafood are the signature regional exports flown out of HDY. Clearance is handled by Thai Customs, with bonded storage on site. The airport's strong road links to Malaysia via the Sadao and Padang Besar crossings make combined air-and-truck routings to Penang practical. For forwarders, Hat Yai is the natural consolidation point for shipments from the south.
