## Description

In the far north of the Maldives, Hanimaadhoo International (HAQ) reopened on 9 November 2025 after a 136-million-dollar upgrade backed by an EXIM Bank of India credit line. A lengthened 2.46-kilometre runway now takes international narrow-bodies such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, and the new terminal is sized for 1.3 million passengers a year. The aim is to open the northern atolls to tourism without a transfer through Malé. HAQ has no dedicated cargo terminal: air freight rides in the belly of passenger flights, with heavier consignments routed through Velana International (MLE). A separate seaplane terminal links the surrounding resort islands.
