## Description

Batam is an industrial island in a free-trade and special economic zone, a short ferry from Singapore, and Hang Nadim (IATA: BTH, ICAO: WIDD) is its aviation gateway. Its 4,025-metre runway — the longest in Indonesia — takes Boeing 747s and even the Airbus A380. Since 2021 a consortium of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Indonesian operator Angkasa Pura and construction firm Wijaya Karya (WIKA) has held a 25-year concession to expand and run the airport, explicitly including the construction and management of a new cargo terminal. Work on Terminal 2 began in May 2024, with a first phase costed at around 2.4 trillion rupiah and targeted for completion in 2026. The Batam Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) is separately meshing the airport with the Batu Ampar seaport into a sea-air platform aimed at e-commerce, transferring regional ocean freight onto aircraft at Batam. The site already hosts Batam Aero Technic, the country's largest MRO complex, with 23 hangars and two paint shops run by the Lion Group. Duty-free status, an electronics and shipyard manufacturing base and proximity to Singapore together give BTH real freight momentum, while ferries, feeder vessels and island roads handle onward distribution. For intercontinental freighter capacity today, shippers still lean on Singapore Changi (SIN) or Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK).
