Around 500,000 passenger movements a year and not a single freighter: Hamilton Island Airport (IATA: HTI, ICAO: YBHM), formally the Great Barrier Reef Airport, is the air gateway to the Whitsunday Islands off the Queensland coast and built entirely around tourism. Its single 1,766-metre asphalt runway takes jets up to Boeing 737 size, with Qantas and Virgin Australia flying in direct from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
