## Description

SAS is the sole scheduled operator at Halmstad Airport (IATA: HAD, ICAO: ESMT), flying about seven weekly rotations to Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) from this Halland coastal field that handles no air cargo at all. The airport opened in 1944 as the base of the F14 wing and still hosts the Swedish Armed Forces' technical school on site. As of 2026 there are no scheduled international services; seasonal charters and business aviation make up the rest of the traffic. The runway of roughly 2,260 m could take larger charter jets, but there is no freight terminal, no cold-chain capacity and no air-cargo customs office. Shipments from Halland therefore route through Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT), about 130 road kilometres north along the E6, or through Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) some 200 kilometres away across the Öresund bridge, the largest cargo gateway in southern Scandinavia. Malmö (MMX) serves as a third option for domestic and express traffic. Sea freight, meanwhile, moves through the Port of Halmstad in the city itself, which keeps the region's heavy flows off the airport entirely.
