## Description

Jakarta's second airport is not a passenger story but a freight one: Halim Perdanakusuma (IATA: HLP, ICAO: WIHH) moved about 55,100 tonnes of cargo in 2024, some 17 per cent more than the year before, while Soekarno-Hatta continues to carry the capital's intercontinental volumes. Two all-cargo carriers are based here — Asia Cargo Airlines, formerly Tri-MG Intra Asia, and My Indo Airlines — flying mainly domestic and charter work across Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The Lion Group runs an east-Jakarta cargo facility rated at roughly 150 tonnes a day, and ground handler PT Gapura Angkasa has returned to the airport, where it has dispatched a Boeing 747-400 freighter carrying 83.5 tonnes of export cargo. The 3,000 m runway is shared with Lanud Halim air force base, which keeps slots tight and prompted Citilink and Batik Air to hand several scheduled routes back to Soekarno-Hatta in August 2025. Scheduled passenger flights remain domestic, international movements are largely cargo or non-commercial, and gates 9 and 10 entered service in February 2026. Forwarders use HLP for express, domestic and charter freight on the eastern side of the city, while Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), about 40 kilometres west, holds the full customs and intercontinental infrastructure. Road time between the two along the Jakarta Outer Ring Road is the real planning variable.
