## Description

Stepping off the plane at Hachijojima Airport (HAC), visitors find palm trees and volcanic peaks — a subtropical corner of Tokyo Prefecture some 290 kilometres south of the capital. ANA connects the island with Haneda several times daily, and these passenger flights carry the island's entire airfreight: fresh fish and ornamental plants outbound, supplies inbound, all as belly load. There is no cargo terminal and no handling agent; heavy or bulky goods travel by ferry from Tokyo's Takeshiba Pier. Forwarders therefore route shipments through Haneda (HND) and book the island leg as belly capacity or sea freight. Once an island of exile in the Edo period, Hachijojima now lives on tourism, fishing and horticulture.
