## Description

The 37th Composite Aviation Regiment, flying Su-24M and Su-25 jets under Russia's 4th Air and Air Defence Forces Army, is what occupies Gvardeyskoye (Hvardiiske) Air Base north of Simferopol in Crimea - a purely military installation, not a freight or civilian airport. Held by Russian forces since the illegal annexation of 2014, the field handles no scheduled or cargo flights and has no cargo terminal, no handling agent and no customs office usable for foreign trade. It also sits inside active combat: several Ukrainian strikes on the airfield are documented for 2026, including in early and mid-July and at the end of August, with hangars reported hit. Sanctions regimes in the EU, the United States and Switzerland broadly prohibit trade, investment and transport services involving Crimea, so the site is legally out of reach for forwarders regardless.
