## Description

One runway and a modest passenger terminal two kilometres north of town make up Gustavo Rizo Airport (IATA: BCA, ICAO: MUBA), the airport of remote Baracoa in eastern Cuba. Scheduled service has thinned out sharply: Aerogaviota flew here from Havana until 2020, regular connections since then are not confirmed, and announced plans for international flights have not been substantiated. The field handles no freight at all, with no cargo terminal, no freighter operation and no customs post for air cargo. Consignments for the region are cleared at the Aerovaradero cargo terminal in Havana and then trucked roughly a thousand kilometres east, the last stretch over the winding La Farola mountain road. Realistic alternatives are Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba (SCU), the nearest larger airport, and José Martí in Havana (HAV) for anything international. Cocoa, coconut and tourism carry the local economy, and Baracoa's cocoa exports leave by sea rather than by air.
