## Description

IATA GKN, ICAO PAGK: Gulkana Airport is a State of Alaska general-aviation field in the Copper River Basin with no regular air cargo activity and FAA-counted enplanements of 141 in 2010. Four nautical miles northeast of Gulkana near Glennallen, its single asphalt runway 15/33 measures 5,001 ft (1,524 m), and about 5,122 aircraft movements were recorded in 2006, mostly air taxi and charter work into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. In July 2024 the FAA awarded USD 95,000 under the Airport Improvement Program to reseal the runway, taxiway and apron. No cargo terminal, freighter operation or named cargo airline is documented at GKN, and belly capacity is immaterial for commercial shipments. The basin is supplied by road instead: the Richardson and Glenn Highways link Glennallen to Anchorage and Fairbanks, and general cargo arrives by truck. For genuine air freight the reference points are Anchorage (ANC), one of the world's largest freight airports by tonnage, and Fairbanks (FAI), where customs clearance and transfer to trucking take place.
