## Description

At 54 degrees south, Guardia Marina Zañartu (WPU, ICAO SCGZ) on Navarino Island is the southernmost airport in the world with scheduled service. Aerovías DAP remains the only carrier, flying from Punta Arenas (PUQ) — some 300 kilometres and around 40 minutes — several days a week. The airport has no dedicated cargo facilities and no air-cargo customs post; Puerto Williams is resupplied mainly by sea along the Beagle Channel, with air freight limited to belly space on the DAP aircraft. Chile's public works ministry opened a new terminal of roughly 490 square metres here in 2024, an investment of more than 3.4 billion pesos, but the project addresses passengers rather than freight. Forwarders therefore consolidate shipments in Punta Arenas, the genuine cargo reference point for the Magallanes region, before onward carriage to Santiago (SCL). Its value to logistics lies in access to Cape Horn and Antarctic expedition traffic rather than tonnage.
