## Description

A 3,200-metre runway, a control tower in service since November 2025, an apron enlarged to 23 stands and a terminal shell already standing: Akhmat-Hadji Kadyrov International Airport in Grozny (GRV/URMG) is deep into a full rebuild now scheduled for completion in 2027. The field lies 7.5 kilometres north of the Chechen capital and is among the busiest in Russia's North Caucasus; the new terminal is designed for roughly 1.2 million passengers a year. Traffic remains firmly passenger-led, with about 128 weekly flights to some ten destinations in four countries, so air freight travels almost entirely as belly cargo and there is no standalone freighter operation. For planned airfreight, forwarders route through Mineralnye Vody (MRV), around 300 kilometres west, or via the Moscow cargo airports, with road access along the R-217 Kavkaz highway. International connectivity at Russian airports has been restricted by sanctions since 2022, which affects both belly capacity and transit times. For logistics planners, GRV is a regional passenger gateway rather than a cargo point.
