## Description

2,349 metres of runway, enough for a Boeing 737-800 or an Airbus A321, and not a single scheduled flight: that is Grosseto Corrado Baccarini (GRS/LIRS) in the Tuscan Maremma, three kilometres west of the city. The field is a main operating base of the Italian Air Force and home to the 4° Stormo and its Eurofighter Typhoon interceptors, a unit that marked its 95th anniversary in June 2026. Civil use is limited to seasonal charters, air taxi work and general aviation through a small terminal; there is no scheduled service, no freighter operation, no cargo terminal and no customs post. Air freight for southern Tuscany therefore routes through Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) and Florence (FLR), each about 150 road kilometres away, or through Rome Fiumicino (FCO), roughly two hours down the SS1 Aurelia. For sea and ferry traffic the ports of Piombino and Livorno are close at hand. Forwarders should treat GRS as a military field with limited business aviation rather than as a freight option.
