## Description

Opened in 1947 on a former American wartime airfield, Granville-Mont-Saint-Michel (GFR/LFRF) has kept the same modest dimensions: a single 960-metre paved runway with night lighting, which rules out any commercial freight aircraft. The field lies at Bréville-sur-Mer, about ten kilometres north of Granville in Normandy's Manche département, and is used by the Aéroclub de Granville, business flights and sightseeing traffic over Mont-Saint-Michel. Scheduled services ended in the 1960s, when Jersey Airlines flew the short hop to the Channel Islands; there is no cargo handling, no customs office and no freight terminal today. Shippers in the Manche move goods by road instead: Caen-Carpiquet (CFR) is a good 100 kilometres east and Rennes Bretagne (RNS) roughly 120 kilometres south, both with customs and forwarding infrastructure. Intercontinental air freight from Normandy is consolidated at Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), around four hours away by road feeder service. For freight purposes, GFR is a landmark on the map rather than an address.
