## Description

Some 275 commercial flights a day, almost all of them sightseeing rotations flown by operators based around Las Vegas, make Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCN/KGCN) one of the busiest tour fields anywhere. Helicopters and the Cessna Caravans and DHC-6 Twin Otters of Grand Canyon Airlines dominate the apron; dedicated cargo does not exist here, as there is no freight terminal, no freighter operation and no customs post, with mail and small parcels riding along as belly load on general-aviation flights. Arizona's only state-owned airport, run by the state transport department ADOT, sits at the park's south entrance near Tusayan, about 7 miles from the rim. A USD 12 million project resurfaced the single runway in 2025, reconfigured a taxiway intersection and brought markings and signage up to current FAA standards, work that earned GCN the 2026 ADOT Airport of the Year award. Freight for the region arrives by truck through Flagstaff, roughly two hours away, or clears through Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). For time-critical shipments, Harry Reid International in Las Vegas (LAS) is the other practical entry point, with road feeder service via US-93 and Interstate 40.
