## Description

A single asphalt runway of about 1,016 metres (14/32) at 415 metres elevation defines Grafenwöhr Army Airfield (ICAO ETIC) in Bavaria's Upper Palatinate — a field built for rotary aircraft such as the UH-60 and AH-64, not for freighters. Operated by the US Army under U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria, it serves the adjoining Grafenwöhr Training Area, the largest US military training ground in Europe, as an air assault landing zone. There is no civil aviation, no scheduled or cargo traffic and no customs post for commercial goods. For commercial air freight in northern Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate, Nuremberg (NUE) some 65 kilometres to the south-west is the nearest handling location, while Munich (MUC) and Frankfurt (FRA) remain the intercontinental gateways. Road access runs via the A9 and A93 motorways. ETIC has no operational relevance for forwarders.
