## Description

GOZ and LBGO are the codes behind Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport near Veliko Tarnovo, a central Bulgarian field that today handles mainly freight, charter and special aviation rather than scheduled passengers. Line service to Sofia ended in the late 2010s, and cargo moves on a project or ad-hoc basis; there is no resident freighter rotation and no publicly documented dedicated cargo terminal. Concessionaire Gorna Oryahovitsa Civil Airport 2016 JSC is spending around BGN 13.3 million on runway, approach lighting and security upgrades, including an extension that would give the airport a three-kilometre runway alongside Sofia and Burgas. Named handling agents are not publicly verified either, so forwarders negotiate ground services case by case with the operator. Bulgaria's EU membership means Union customs law applies: third-country consignments need standard import clearance, while intra-EU traffic does not. On the ground the town hosts Bulgaria's largest marshalling yard, and the Danube bridge at Ruse lies roughly 100 km to the north-east, opening a road link into Romania. Shippers who need schedulable airfreight use Sofia (SOF, about 220 km by road) or Bucharest Otopeni (OTP, roughly 230 km via Ruse); the runway works were most recently delayed by archaeological finds.
