## Description

A military runway and a cargo gateway are two different things, and Gongzhuling has only the former: the airfield between Gongzhuling and Siping in Jilin province belongs to the People's Liberation Army Air Force and carries no scheduled passenger or cargo traffic, no cargo terminal and no commercial customs post. Air freight for the Siping area is handled at Changchun Longjia International (CGQ) roughly 80 kilometres north, which processed about 106,500 tonnes of cargo in 2025 and concentrates customs clearance for Jilin province. Shenyang Taoxian (SHE), some 200 kilometres to the south-west, is the practical second option and offers the wider international network in north-east China. Both airports are within a day's trucking via the G1 Beijing–Harbin expressway. The surrounding region forms part of China's north-eastern corn belt, whose agricultural exports move by rail and through the seaports of Dalian and Yingkou rather than by air. Only time-critical goods such as spare parts or pharmaceuticals justify the air-plus-truck combination from CGQ.
