## Description

Apiay is a defence installation, not an airport shippers can use: API/SKAP is the Capitán Luis Francisco Gómez Niño Air Base of the Colombian Aerospace Force, twelve kilometres from Villavicencio in Meta department. Combat Air Command CACOM 2 is based here alongside army and navy units. The runway serves military flying only — no scheduled, charter or freight services, and no public handling or customs facility for commercial goods. The base sits where the Andes give way to the Llanos plains, a region living on oil, cattle, palm oil and rice. Civil air freight from the area moves through Villavicencio's La Vanguardia (VVC) and onward via Bogotá El Dorado (BOG), some 120 road kilometres to the north-west, home to Colombia's largest cargo complex and its customs operation. That road link is fragile: landslides and construction regularly close the Bogotá–Villavicencio highway, making transit times out of Meta hard to predict. For forwarders, API remains a military field with no commercial role.
