## Description

GMO/DNGO is Gombe Lawanti, formally Brigadier Zakari Maimalari Airport, a north-eastern Nigerian field whose 3,500-metre runway could take freighters but which carries no scheduled cargo at all. Run by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and opened to traffic in 2008, it is built around a single domestic route to Abuja. Overland Airways, Air Peace, Arik Air and Azman Air have served that link in recent years; there is no dedicated cargo terminal, no dangerous-goods handling and no freighter rotation. Air freight therefore moves only as belly cargo in passenger aircraft. Gombe is the administrative seat of Gombe State and an agricultural centre for groundnuts, sesame, cotton and livestock, whose output leaves the region by truck towards Bauchi and Yola. For planned air freight with customs clearance, Mallam Aminu Kano International (KAN) to the north-west and Nnamdi Azikiwe in Abuja (ABV), some 500 road kilometres away, are the realistic alternatives, with Murtala Muhammed in Lagos (LOS) for intercontinental shipments. The word "International" in the name so far describes an ambition rather than a running international schedule.
