Bananas built Golfito: until 1985 the United Fruit Company moved vast volumes through this town on Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce, and the airfield that grew up with the plantations is today GLF/MRGF, a single-runway field of 1,395 metres with no cargo handling at all. Sansa is the only scheduled operator, linking Golfito with San José and Puerto Jiménez on short regional legs; there are no freighter services and no air cargo terminal. The runway sits in a narrow valley with rising terrain on both sides, which keeps aircraft size limited.
