## Description

The most famous vault in the world stands beside this runway, and nothing in it has ever flown out: Godman Army Air Field (FTK, ICAO KFTK) is the airfield of the Fort Knox Army post in Hardin County, Kentucky, operated by the US Army Aviation Branch. Four runways, the longest 5,585 feet (1,702 m), handle helicopters, military transports and training missions, including support for the Army Reserve Aviation Command; civil access is limited to general aviation and corporate flights by prior permission. There is no air cargo handling, bonded warehouse or ramp service for forwarders. Air freight for the region is tendered 50 kilometres north at Louisville (SDF), home of the UPS Worldport and one of the largest express sorting operations anywhere, with Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG) and its DHL hub and Amazon Air presence as the second option. Interstate 65 and I-71 put both within a one- to three-hour truck run. Godman also carries a piece of aviation history: the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American flying units in the US armed forces, were stationed here in 1945.
