## Description

Three years of construction ended in February 2024, when Ethiopia inaugurated the rebuilt Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport (GDE, ICAO HAGO) with a 3,500 m² terminal, a new runway and an apron able to hold four Q400 or Boeing 737 aircraft. The town sits on the Shabelle River in the Ogaden lowlands of the Somali Region, an area whose economy rests on livestock and on oil and gas exploration. Ethiopian Airlines now serves Gode daily from Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and Jijiga, the last of these allowing intra-regional travel without transiting the capital. Despite the investment there is no cargo terminal, bonded warehouse or freighter service: air freight travels as belly cargo on those regional flights. International consignments to and from the Ogaden are therefore consolidated at Addis Ababa Bole (ADD) and its Ethiopian Cargo terminal, with Dire Dawa (DIR) as a secondary option. Road links run to Jijiga and the highlands; there is no rail connection.
