## Description

Inaugurated in 1933 as La Dorada's national airfield, German Olano Air Base (PAL) at Palanquero has long since become a purely military installation, home to the Colombian Air Force's CACOM-1 combat command on the banks of the Magdalena River. Its roughly 3,000-metre runway handles air force operations, not scheduled passenger or freight flights. Commercial cargo for the region is consolidated through Bogotá-El Dorado (BOG), about 150 kilometres to the south-east.
