## Description

Closed to public use since 2005, La Carlota — officially the Base Aérea Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda — occupies a runway wedged into eastern Caracas and is run by the Venezuelan military. Operations today are limited to military missions, government flights and medical evacuation; there is no cargo terminal, freight handling or civilian customs post for trade goods. The base was also drawn into the wider conflict: according to consistent reporting it was struck during US air attacks on Caracas in early January 2026. All commercial air traffic for the capital region, passengers and cargo alike, moves through Simón Bolívar International Airport at Maiquetía (CCS), which resumed cargo flights on 5 August 2026 and passenger services on 1 September 2026 after the 24 June earthquakes, initially at heavily reduced capacity. Valencia (VLN) is a further option for shipments into central Venezuela. For forwarders, La Carlota carries no freight relevance at all.
