## Description

Tampico's air gateway grew up with the Gulf-coast oil boom, when moving specialists and equipment quickly was worth paying for, and the General Francisco Javier Mina airport (IATA: TAM, ICAO: MMTM) in Ciudad Madero still serves that petroleum and petrochemical economy. A dedicated OMA Carga facility, set up with express operator Estafeta in 2005, offers bonded storage and handling for industrial goods, while apron positions allow freighter loading and unloading. New routes launched in late 2025 and early 2026 lifted passenger traffic eleven per cent in the first quarter of 2026 to more than 151,000 travellers: Aerus restored the Monterrey link on 2 March 2026 with six weekly frequencies and Viva added three weekly services to Villahermosa, with the airport targeting more than 700,000 passengers a year. For forwarders the decisive asset is the short road link to the Tampico-Altamira seaport, the Gulf coast's largest industrial port, which makes combined sea-air solutions workable for project cargo. The airport is run by Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), in which VINCI Airports has held a stake since 2022. Large-scale full-freighter capacity and intercontinental connections still run through Mexico City (MEX/NLU) and Monterrey (MTY).
