## Description

Aeroflot's arrival from Moscow-Sheremetyevo in July 2025 reopened Gelendzhik Airport (IATA: GDZ, ICAO: URKG) on Russia's Black Sea coast after more than three years of wartime closure. The field had been shut since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and is only the second southern-Russian regional airport to reopen since, currently limited to daytime operations. Its new terminal, finished just before the war, spans about 17,000 m² and cost roughly 6 billion rubles. Gelendzhik serves coastal tourism in the Krasnodar region rather than freight and has no meaningful cargo role. Air cargo for the Black Sea coast routes mainly through Sochi (AER), as the larger Krasnodar airport (KRR) remains closed.
