## Description

AZAL, Aeroflot, Ural Airlines, Pegasus and AJet are the carriers that link Ganja International (GNJ / UBBG), the main airport of western Azerbaijan, with Moscow, St Petersburg, Istanbul and Nakhchivan. The airport handled around 223,000 passengers in 2024 and has held international status since 1996. Its asphalt runway of roughly 3,300 metres could physically accept wide-body freighters, but there is no developed cargo terminal and no confirmed scheduled freighter operation, so air freight moves as belly cargo on passenger services. Azerbaijan's actual cargo hub is Heydar Aliyev International (GYD) near Baku, about 360 kilometres east and home base of Silk Way West Airlines, where regional import clearance is normally handled. Ganja sits directly on the east-west Baku-Tbilisi road and rail corridor, which makes trucking pre-carriage in either direction straightforward. Tbilisi (TBS), some 250 kilometres to the north-west, is the second practical alternative, particularly for consignments with a European main leg.
