## Description

Galway's last scheduled passenger flight departed in 2011, and commercial operations ceased entirely in 2016 — since then Galway Airport (ICAO: EICM, informally GWY) at Carnmore, east of the city on Ireland's west coast, has served only the Galway Flying Club. Its single 1,289-metre runway is maintained for private aviation, but there is no passenger or cargo handling, and the county council has put the Carnmore site up for sale with no reopening in prospect. Airfreight for the west of Ireland routes through Shannon (SNN), about 90 kilometres south, or Dublin (DUB). For forwarders, EICM is effectively a closed field.
