## Description

Opened to serve Tunisia's phosphate heartland, Gafsa-Ksar (GAF/DTTF) carries the label international but has no regular scheduled service as of 2026. Operated by the national civil aviation authority OACA, it is used mainly by the Gafsa Phosphate Company for staff and equipment flights into the western mining belt, plus occasional charters, including services to Jeddah. The 2,900-metre runway could take larger aircraft, yet there is no cargo terminal, no permanent handling and no air-freight customs post. Mined rock phosphate — Gafsa sits on one of the world's major deposits — leaves by rail for the ports of Sfax, Gabès and Skhira rather than by air. Shippers in central Tunisia therefore route air cargo through Tunis-Carthage (TUN) about 350 km to the north-east, where handling and clearance are concentrated, with Sfax (SFA) the nearest alternative.
