Better known for its phosphate-chemical complex and seaport than for aviation, Gabès-Matmata in south-eastern Tunisia sees only light, largely seasonal or on-demand traffic. The airport runs no commercial cargo terminal, customs or handling service. Freight from the Gabès industrial region moves chiefly through the Port of Gabès and by road, while air cargo is consolidated at Tunis-Carthage (TUN) or regionally at Djerba (DJE), about 120 km to the south-east.
