## Description

A runway inside Fuzhou's urban district of Cangshan, and nothing on it for shippers: Fuzhou Air Base is a People's Liberation Army Air Force installation under the Eastern Theater Command and is closed to civil traffic. Built by Japanese occupation forces in 1944, it served as the city's civil airport, Fuzhou Yixu, from 1 December 1974 until 23 June 1997, when Fuzhou Changle International took over scheduled services. The 2,400 metre field has no cargo terminal, no handling agent and no customs post, and carries no civil IATA or ICAO code. Air freight for the capital of Fujian province moves through Fuzhou Changle International (FOC) about 50 kilometres east, which handled some 16.1 million passengers and 122,500 tonnes of cargo in 2025 and added four new international freight routes that year. FOC's second runway entered service in June 2026, making it Fujian's first code 4F airport; Xiamen Gaoqi (XMN), roughly 280 expressway kilometres to the south-west, is the usual second option.
