## Description

China Eastern, China Southern and China Express anchor a purely domestic network of roughly 26 routes to some 30 Chinese cities at Fuyang Xiguan Airport (FUG / ZSFY) in north-western Anhui, an airport rebuilt in 2023 to a design capacity of three million passengers and 16,000 tonnes of freight a year. The CNY 1.24 billion expansion, in service since June 2023, extended the runway 400 metres southwards, added nine code C stands and delivered a new passenger terminal. Freight capacity exists on paper rather than on the apron: shipments travel as belly cargo on passenger flights, and there is no cargo terminal and no on-site customs office, a freight building appearing only in the revised master plan. Forwarders consolidate regional air cargo at Hefei Xinqiao (HFE) or the freighter-heavy Zhengzhou Xinzheng (CGO), each two to three hours away by expressway trucking. Fuyang West station on the Beijing-Hong Kong high-speed line offers a fast surface alternative for the first leg. The current project is the conversion of the old terminal into a 7,200 square metre international terminal sized for 100,000 international passengers, backed by an application for temporary port-of-entry status and border infrastructure targeted for 2026. Until that status is granted, export shipments from Fuyang clear customs elsewhere.
