## Description

The San Juan Islands archipelago counts over 170 named islands, and Friday Harbor Airport is the busiest civilian airfield among them. Kenmore Air and San Juan Airlines link the islands to Seattle and Anacortes, with summer schedules swelling around sailors, whale watchers and second-home owners; floatplanes land in the harbor below while wheeled aircraft use the strip on the hill. Freight logistics, however, belong to the Washington State Ferries from Anacortes, which carry virtually everything the islands consume. Aircraft handle only the small and urgent – spare parts, documents, medicine – while anything palletized goes by boat, by road and, if it must fly, through SEA.
