## Description

A 3,800-metre runway with CAT IIIA all-weather approaches, no night curfew and handling capacity the operator puts at a minimum of 400,000 tonnes a year: Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (IATA: HHN, ICAO: EDFH) is built around freight rather than passengers. It moved more than 50,000 tonnes of air cargo in the first half of 2025, about two and a half per cent up on the same period of 2024, with management under Rüdiger Franke guiding to roughly six per cent growth for the full year. The airport sits in the Hunsrück hills near Lautzenhausen in Rhineland-Palatinate, some 120 kilometres west of Frankfurt, and has been owned by Trier-based TRIWO AG since May 2023. Users include Silk Way West Airlines and Atlas Air, while Nippon Cargo Airlines maintains its own cargo facility on site and HahnCargo provides handling. The commercial focus has shifted towards e-commerce, supported by short turnarounds and close coordination with customs and ground partners. The A61 and A1 motorways put the Rhine-Main region, the Ruhr and the Benelux countries within road feeder service range, which is what makes Hahn a workable overflow option for Frankfurt (FRA). Cologne/Bonn (CGN), Liège (LGG) and Luxembourg (LUX) are the other night-capable alternatives nearby.
